High school and community colleges teachers participating in the program identify and recommend their best and most motivated students as well as the names and contact information of guidance counselors to SILLC every semester. With the students’ authorization and their parents’, high school and community college teachers provide SILLC with the students’ contact information. In collaboration with the UA Office of Admissions, SILLC sends the students and parents various brochures/information, visit them at their school and/or arrange for the students and parents to visit the SILLC targeted program(s) at UA. During their visit, students and parents tour the campus, meet with SILLC majors with common interests, seat in a SILLC classroom, and meet with SILLC advisers and Director.
SILLC provides high school and community college teachers with assistance in promoting and advocating their disciplines: tools, handouts, letters, network, but also workshops and seminars as well as visits to interested schools to talk with teachers, students, parents, and administrators.
