Humanities Writing Group

Because hiring, promotion and tenure are in large part decided based on a faculty member’s publication record, productivity is key to academic career success. Younger scholars, whose experience with the publishing process may be minimal and who may still be developing regular writing habits, stand to benefit from ongoing peer support and accountability. The Humanities Writing Group was first convened during Spring 2011 to help meet the needs of younger faculty who are looking to develop regular research and writing schedules. Currently the group listserv includes faculty members from across the College of Humanities, including junior, visiting and adjunct faculty from Africana Studies, East Asian Studies, English, German Studies, and Spanish and Portuguese. In addition to updating each other on their writing goals and accomplishments at monthly meetings, members also exchange drafts of their writing with each other via a group email account.
